Texas Books We Recommend

The definitive history of Texas, this is a book you can read over and over again (unless you have a photographic memory).

I never go camping without it!  I used it the other day to identify a baby Mottled Watersnake we came across in a nearby creek.

I have friends who swear by this book - and they're good cooks so it must be worthwhile.

Very readable: sometimes inspiring, sometimes depressing, always informative.

I just learned that hummingbirds are native only to the Americas! Poor Europe. Poor Australia. etc...

I remember when they first started out in Austin. And look at 'em now.

I love stopping to read Texas' historical markers. If you can't drive all over creation, get this book.

My new favorite field guide to Texas birds

Nouveau Texas cooking, but that's okay. If you've ever eaten at Reata, you'll know what I mean.

We trust Thea.  She's been in the biz long enough to know what's worthwhile.

Said to be the best there is, though I haven't read it yet.

My bucket list includes visiting every Texas state park.  I should live so long!

Fascinating stories of the murals that resulted from the Great Depression

Live oaks, pin oaks, black oak, red oak...oh, and some other trees, too.

Forget the movie.
Read the book.

I grew up near the refineries. If only I had grown up on land that gushed oil!

For a little escapist, sexy entertainment, read my best-selling friend's novel set in Texas.

Ahh, the glory days of UT football. I knew one of his kids well
